This very distinctive Victorian beauty is a near 7-foot-tall hand-crafted walnut wooden dressing stand or vanity with ornate carved accents and ALL original candle holders and drop pulls -- it POPS and is simply splendid. It came to Neville Plantation in Port Hudson from an old east coast estate and is TOTALLY ORIGINAL & CORRECT.
The construction is very solid, the carving striking, the old walnut gorgeous. Crafted for a wealthy family around 1870 to 1890, it was made for a grand home and has survived during 3 separate centuries to make a real statement in a modern era.
In addition, it is a very unusual piece in that the drop-pulls are present and right, with pictures to show the inside drawer details confirming the non-replacement of ANY hardware. This is most unusual! It comes with all of the ORIGINAL formed and beveled MARBLE dressing table-tops, which have no deficits. The candle-holder shelves on each side of the mirror are completely intact -- and these are often missing on other similar pieces. Here, they are present and correct.
SALE PRICE: $1,975 -- A fair price as these one-of-a-kind, hand-made pieces -- made when craftsmanship mattered -- are simply disappearing. Check online -- you will NOT see anything similar to this magnificent survivor, particularly in this A-1 condition. I will consider any reasonable SERIOUS offers, of course, but the piece is priced accurately.
The photos are provided to demonstrate the superb condition of this old antique walnut carved vanity. I have cleaned out the contents, dusted it off inside and out but have not otherwise tried to clean it. The wood is very attractive and the hand crafting is both eye-catching and distinctive. This is a unique and lovely piece from "back in the day," guaranteed to be something different from that which is seen anywhere else. All drawers are hand-made and dovetailed, with all original hardware. The walnut wood grain is worn and lovely, a great old patina with all the raised/carved features nearly 100% intact -- minimal wear over the years, just as you would expect AND hope.
MEASUREMENTS and DETAILS: The pictures give an idea of the size but this is a BIG STATEMENT PIECE. It is 6' 10" tall, 43" wide and 18" or so deep.
100% all original. Drawers open and closes JUST as they should and are all hand-made. VERY COLLECTIBLE and would make a great central piece in ANY room. Without seeing this piece, you just cannot know how splendid it really is. And, you WILL NOT see any others like it.
