ANTIQUE WASHINGTON ARTILLERY GARRISON CAP
ANTIQUE WASHINGTON ARTILLERY GARRISON CAP -- From the Washington Artillery Veterans Association, which honors the venerable Washington Artillery serving as a part of U.S. Armed Forces tradition since 1838.
Sales Price: $20
This striking red w/ gold lettering and piping garrison cap is the standard issue Washington Artillery garrison cap used at Washington Artillery Veterans Association gatherings for many decades. This one has survived in the original plastic sleeve and has never been worn or otherwise used. As noted in the pictures, this cool old item is "correct and right." The Washington Artillery was formed out of New Orleans in 1838 and has served in every major conflict in which the United States has participated -- from the Mexican War all the way through Operation Iraqi Freedom.
I have dusted the cap and holder but have not tried to otherwise clean it. There are no signs of wear or deterioration in the cap.
MEASUREMENTS: The cap is a full-sized cap for men. It is not otherwise "sized." 100% all original.
INSCRIPTIONS: See the pictures, but the Washington Artillery affiliation is noted on the outside. No other info is noted.
VERY COLLECTIBLE piece and the fact this cap has survived in its original sleeve is really amazing. So, this piece is a keeper, for sure.
FROM THE VETERANS ASSOCIATION WEBSITE: "Legends are built on fact. And so it is with one such military legend born in New Orleans and known today as the Washington Artillery. Created by need, strengthened by duty, and perpetuated by pride, it boasts a tradition of fighting men, and now women, gallantly revered throughout the nation and abroad. This honor lay not on some mythical legend, but one whose battle honors read like a synopsis of American military history. Its humble trail of heritage originated around the same time as the city for which it serves and has evolved into a renowned military organization of citizen-soldiers."
