Antique (1870-1920) High-Backed Rosewood Gothic Chair-Pair With Hand-Carved "Sun Face" Accents -- From Neville Plantation, Port Hudson, LA
All-original rosewood set of matching chairs, with their original hand-carved frames and original carved Gothic accents. It comes from a Neville Plantation estate, where they had been stored for many decades. They are unmarked but date around the turn of the 20th Century -- probably around 1870-1920.
-- Intriguing "Sun Face" motif.
-- Hand-crafted barley-twist accents throughout and turned spindle lower frames.
-- Intricate carvings throughout on the high backs
The construction is very solid. These are NOT cheap "knock-offs" and acquired some reupholstering along its journey -- done beautifully. NO tears or rips.
These chairs are handsome and their Gothic character unmistakable, even with the 1 missing finial, partially effaced somewhere along the way. Priced accordingly. Check online for comparative pricing!

The photos are provided to demonstrate the condition of this pair of really lovely chairs. They have the marks of service BUT are still absolutely SOLID IN EVERY RESPECT.
The older reupholstering is professionally done and gorgeous. We have cleaned the set, dusted it off but have not otherwise tried to clean them.
Even in its antique condition, the ornately Gothic-carved rosewood remains very attractive and the crafting is both eye-catching and distinctive. It is really art.
This is a unique and striking pair from "back in the day." The wood grain is just lovely, a great old patina, especially after a proper reconditioning.
MEASUREMENTS and DETAILS: The chairs are graceful & have very appealing proportions. They are perfect as a functional set or would make cool accent pieces.
Chairs: 49 1/2" tall, 20 1/2" wide at the widest point of the seat and the backs are 17" and they are 19" deep. NOT small!
