Heavy Antique 1895-1910 Ramapo-Ajax Co. Railroad Switch Stand From Neville Plantation Area -- 6 Feet Tall!
This wonderful piece is a all-original, properly marked antique railroad switch made by the RAMAPO-AJAX FOUNDRY CO. (later called RACOR), which operated out of Hilburn, NY and provided RR switch mechanisms for the all-important railroad industry of the era. It dates from the later 1800's but before 1908. It is a genuine switch once integrated into an operating railroad track line and was used to "switch" the direction of trains to another set of tracks. It still has the original switch bar (often missing) and many of the original reflectors and other attachments. It was found on Neville Plantation and gives all the appearances of having been used on the old railroad tracks which traverse the port Hudson area. The piece is 100% authentic, with 5 of its original placement spikes -- all complete and right. It was removed from a Neville Plantation barn, where it had been stored for many decades and "liberated" after I bought the old homesite and surrounding acreage in the 1990's. The switch is very solid, weighing in at several hundred pounds, and the piece is TALL --- right at 72 inches, or around 6'. This is not a cheap "knock-off" -- it is the real deal and rare. I true RR Collector would love this piece.
SALE PRICE: $1,200
This heavy switch cannot be mailed or shipped -- it weighs in at over 500 lbs., so come with help to load the sucker!
The photos are provided to demonstrate the condition of this old switch, which was retrieved from a barn after a loooong life on the RR, after all! It has the marks of that service BUT is still absolutely solid in every respect. We have dusted it off but have not otherwise tried to clean or restore it. Even in its current condition, the switch stand remains very attractive and the retro crafting is both eye-catching and distinctive. This is a unique and lovely piece from "back in the day." This tall boy will make a splendid statement in any room.
MEASUREMENTS and DETAILS: Height 72″; Width of Base 12″; Length of Base 25″.
100% all original and very collectible.
