Vintage Mexican Silver Circular "Shield-Face" Pin -- GREAT Condition!
Distinctive Styling Comprised of Iconic Mayan Designs
PRICE: $60
DETAILS ON THIS ANTIQUE ITEM: This heavy 2 1/8" diameter .925 sterling silver pin contains a circular "shield" of intricate designs surrounding a stylized face and looks like it could have come off of the "Pyramid of the Sun" in Teotihuacan. It is distinctively styled and the hieroglyphic-like marks surrounding the striking central face are too numerous to categorize! It is a very unusual and very well-fashioned piece weighing 19.5g.
The rear has the following designer marks: "STERLING MEXICO CF P6 (?) 925" Off to the left of these designer stamps is the Mexican Eagle Mark with what appears to be a numeral "1" in the center, which is the time-honored stamp confirming manufacture in Mexico City sometime between 1948 and 1979, when the eagle stamp for Mexican silver was discontinued.
The design is original and quite detailed. It would have been acquired at some point in the 1950's, as best I can tell. It was put away and stored since before Jack Kennedy was elected to the Presidency. The silver pin shows only minimal handling or wear. It is really sharp and is an eye-grabber!
