UNUSUAL ANTIQUE WOODEN "ROLL-TOP" LECTERN CASE STORED IN A PORT HUDSON/FELICIANA BARN
I have NEVER seen a "roll-top" wooden lectern, music stand or storage case like the one offered here -- manufactured by a company known as KOSMOS, the brand which appears on the handle. It is apparently from an old country grocery store somewhere, with its drawers, slats and all accessories completely intact. This piece is just striking. Or...is it from some type of old music or band hall?
TOTALLY ORIGINAL -- you can roll down the slatted door and access the drawers -- all of which are clearly HAND-MADE and slide out as shown in the pictures. The door can then be rolled back up and snapped back into the old, original locking mechanism. THE ORIGINAL KEY IS WITH IT. The top of the large case lifts up and locks into place (as a sort of lectern?) -- all hand-made. The construction is very solid and shows that it was made many years ago, although I have no idea of its age. What was stored or displayed in this puppy? Was it used as an old lectern of some type? How/When did it acquire its rich stain color? Your guess is as good as mine!

The photos are provided to demonstrate the A-1 condition of this old display case or lectern stored in the loft of a barn I renovated out near Neville Plantation Port Hudson, LA. I have cleaned out the contents, dusted it off inside and out but have not otherwise tried to clean it. The black color is very attractive and the "roll-top" door is extremely eye-catching and distinctive. This is a unique and lovely piece from "back in the day."
MEASUREMENTS: The pictures have an 18" ruler included so you can assess the measurements yourself. It is about 20" wide at the base and top, approximately 45" tall, 14" deep and 17" deep at the base & top.
100% all original. "Roll-top" feature opens and closes JUST as it should and is hand-made. Drawers open and close JUST as they should and are hand-made. Key and lock opens and closes JUST as it should. VERY COLLECTIBLE or would make a great accent piece.
