Soooo...here is our latest antique "Mystery of the Week," which is a heavy, ornate, intricately machined brass...something-or-other. It is around 7 1/2" to 8" tall and 3 1/2" wide at the base and has no maker's marks of any kind present. It gives the appearance of being a simple late 19th Century/early 20th Century desk paperweight, but the careful machining and detailed manufacturing makes one wonder: Is it something else?
Any guesses from the troops? There are more pictures below:

Regarding the paperweight thing - have you weighed it? If it's an exact weight (1, 2, 5, 10 lbs) could it be one of a set of weights for scales?

Ooooo....what a great point, Lance! I hadn't thought of that. We weighed it on our postal scale here at the office: 3 lbs., 15.4 ounces.
